He who would be a man

Motivation Mondays

He who would be a man must therefore be a non-conformist!

Great Morning guys! hope you had a fun weekend. I know here in Barbados I  sure did.

So let’s jump in ay.

Life has become so much better when I found the purpose for what I should be doing and not what I have been told to do by others. Its interesting because I never thought I could do it, or even imagined before that I would be doing such things but life is really an interesting phenomenon, and it should be appreciated. I had to not only hear but experience that great things are not done by impulse, but a series of small things brought together.

So If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not that much. You must take personal responsibility.  Understand, you cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of.

Let Me Share a quick story…

The Kid

There was a little kid who used to study in 5th grade. Everyone in his class thought that he was one of the dumbest kids in his his class. His grades were so less that he himself thought the same.

his report card showed his poor progress in his class but that didnt bother him. He used to say to his mom “It doesn’t matter very much…”

His mother knew that her son was not reaching his full potential at school. So she set three rules for him to follow.

No.1 He would be allowed to watch only two pre-selected TV shows per week.

No.2 He had to finish his homework before he could watch any TV or play outside.

No.3 He had to read two books from the library each week and write a book report on each of them.

He was at dismay with these new rules and tried very hard to talk his mother out of them but she stood firm on her decision. He couldn’t think of disobeying his mother, so he had to follow those rules.

Before long he started to see the fruits of his labour, when he was the only one who knew an answer to a question the teacher asked in class.

All his classmates and teachers were surprised that a kid who used to get the lowest scores, was now able to correctly answer the hard questions that would’ve stumbles him before.

The kid was so surprised of himself and realized that his knowledge came from the books he was reading. He began to formulate the idea that if he could learn just a few facts from the books at the library he could learn anything.

He continued on his path of growth and became and academic leader in his school. That kid, learned to read books and realized that he could channel his love for reading into a love for learning.

His mother knew her son was capable of and decided not to settle for anything less and gave him a structured way to do it. The boy who was once thought the dumbest in the class, became a world famous surgeon.

The name of that boy is Benjamin Carson who is now a famous and renowned neurosurgeon, author and politician.

So this goes to show that with a plan and a focus to get better, you will see results.

Have a great week!
